Journey Overview
DAY 1
Arrival in Funchal: Exploration & Acclimation
Meet your BLU Journeys trip leaders in Funchal, where you’ll embark on your Journey across the island. A relaxed lunch sets the tone before stepping onto a classic Levada trail, where lush greenery, flowing water, and sweeping views introduce you to Madeira’s landscape. Afterward, transfer to Saccharum, our coastal home for the next two nights, and settle into the rhythm of the island.
DAY 2
The Wild Northwest: Forests, Cliffs, & Ocean Pools
The island reveals its raw, untamed side as we head into Madeira’s northwest. A coastal and forest hike winds through rugged terrain before giving way to the misty, almost mystical setting of the Fanal Forest. Dramatic rock formations rise from the sea at Ribeira da Janela, followed by time along the volcanic pools of Porto Moniz, where the Atlantic meets lava-carved coastline.
DAY 3
Eastern Madeira: Cliffs & Coastal Views
A striking shift in landscape awaits on Madeira’s eastern edge. The Ponta de São Lourenço coastal hike stretches out along narrow ridgelines with constant ocean exposure and wide-open views. After taking in this dramatic terrain, we pause for lunch in Machico before continuing to Funchal and checking into the Savoy Palace, where a more refined pace awaits.
DAY 4
Gardens, City Exploration, & Coastal Sailing
Take a slower, more immersive day in Funchal. Wander through the vibrant paths of Monte Palace, where tropical gardens, art, and panoramic viewpoints create a layered experience above the city. The afternoon is open to explore at your own pace before transitioning into an evening on the water. A private sailing experience carries us along Madeira’s southern coast, with dinner served onboard as the sun sets over the Atlantic.
DAY 5
Ridgelines Above the Clouds & Celebration Dinner
High above the island, Madeira’s most iconic terrain comes to life. From Pico do Areeiro, choose to fully traverse toward Pico Ruivo or enjoy a shorter ridgeline hike, both offering dramatic views above the clouds. After returning and resetting, the day closes with a curated dinner to celebrate our Journey together.
DAY 6
Farewell & Departure
Depart early this morning, carrying the energy, connection, and experiences of Madeira with you as you head home.
